Woods and Wax

More Than Just Cutting Boards

By Jonathan Riedel

Founder of Woods and Wax with over a decade of business and marketing experience and several years building handcrafted hardwood cutting boards in Utah

Over the past year, Woods and Wax has handcrafted hundreds of hardwood cutting boards and thousands of 100% beeswax candles for customers across the United States. Each piece is made with a focus on quality, durability, and craftsmanship, whether it’s destined for a home kitchen or a custom project.

Our customers typically spend an average of around $45 per order throughout the year. During the holiday season, that average increases to approximately $75 per order, as many shoppers purchase multiple cutting boards, beeswax candles, or gift combinations for family, friends, and clients.

While our cutting boards are primarily designed for food preparation, carving, serving, and everyday kitchen use, one of the most rewarding parts of being a small workshop has been seeing the creative ways customers have incorporated our hardwood boards into their own projects.

We’ve worked with both individual customers and wholesale buyers looking for unfinished hardwood boards that can be customized for specialized applications. Some customers have purchased boards to use as bases for handcrafted speaker systems, while others have incorporated them into personal woodworking or home décor projects.

We’ve also completed custom orders for over-the-sink cutting boards, floating shelves, replacement nightstand tops, and other one-of-a-kind pieces built to meet specific dimensions and requirements.

These projects remind us that a quality hardwood board can be much more than a kitchen accessory. With the right material and craftsmanship, it can become part of furniture, custom cabinetry, display pieces, audio equipment, or countless other creative applications.

Although the kitchen remains the primary home for our cutting boards, we’re always excited to collaborate on custom projects for homeowners, businesses, restaurants, retailers, and other makers looking for handcrafted hardwood products.

The support of our customers has helped Woods and Wax continue to grow, and we’re grateful for the feedback we’ve received from our community, including maintaining a strong customer satisfaction rating through our Etsy shop. Every order, whether standard or custom, helps us continue doing what we enjoy most: building quality hardwood products that are made to last.
